John's paintings are gloriously colourful and vibrant; sunlight filters through leaves in trees illuminating a mountainside stream or catching the golden colours of a freshly harvested crop. Farmhouses and barns in Provence, chateaux or cottages nestling on a hillside overlooking an azure blue sea, all sing out in bright, unfettered tapestries of colour in his paintings.
Everyday images are also included in John's repertoire, such as bustling market stalls laden with fruit or people enjoying a café lifestyle, cobbled streets or weathered, paint-scarred boats tethered to harbour side jetties or drawn up onto stony beaches.
John Lawrence paints mainly from life as he is anxious to re-engage the viewer in "sensing the moment", inviting us in to feel the cold splash of the sea as it crashes over rocks or the warmth of the sun that illuminates the landscape that he so clearly loves to observe and paint.
